This antique marble top parlor table is fantastic and very oversized. And when I say oversized, I mean it. It measures, 46 inches long, 36 inches deep, and 30 inches high - that is a *large* antique parlor table!
I believe this is a walnut table, dating from the 1870's but it could have some rosewood in it, it has been re-stained, and re-sprayed because when it came in the finish was relatively dry. So it has been sanded, stained in walnut, and lacquered, and the frame was all tightened up in the process. It looks great!
Check out the large curved knuckles on the outside of the curved cabriole legs, the unusual cross stretchers that join the table together, large finial posts, extra-large, heavy and original marble top in the turtle top design with ogee edge. It appears to be the original piece of marble, and it is *large* and heavy. There is some very light grey graining in it, too. There’s some minor marking on the marble top, think it will sand out, remind us at the time of purchase, and will be happy to detail it out for you before shipping.
This is a great hall table, with serpentine skirts all the way around, carving is a little heavier on some parts than the others, the only guess I have is that some of them carving was knocked off over the years. I can’t really tell, and you have to really look to even notice, but after all the decades I’ve been selling furniture like this, it’s a pretty good guess.
This table isn’t Belter, but it’s really really nice - perfect for you hallway, entryway, or parlor.
