Antique Victorian Oak Lion Head Barley Twist Carved Rocking Morris Chair #22159
We are pleased to offer this rare and exceptional oak platform Morris chair, featuring striking lion head carvings. This remarkable piece was discovered in a local home, and we were thrilled to acquire it for you. The chair is in its original finish, showcasing the beautiful patina of the solid oak frame. The only thing that needs attention is the cushions, which would look stunning if reupholstered in oxblood or green leather, enhancing the rich tones of the oak.
One of the small balls on the back metal rod, used to adjust the reclining levels, is missing, but this doesn’t affect the overall functionality of the chair. The chair features barley twist (or licorice twist) posts beneath the carved arms, with impressive lion heads displaying exposed teeth. The skirted frame is adorned with incised carvings on the sides and top, adding to its Victorian elegance. The original castors are intact, allowing for easy movement.
