We are pleased to be offering today this solid mahogany bench made centennial age carved slant top desk with barley twist posts, carved lid with dragons on both sides and wonderful detail ball and claw feet on all four legs dating from the 1880's. It has a dainty little brass spindle gallery top. It is definitely bench made with the numbers on the back. When the slant top lid is pulled down, it reveals a simplistic cubby hole triple drawer interior with two pull out compartments hidden behind the turn finial posts. It is similar to a governor Winthrop desk. When you open the lid the supports come out automatically. It has three block front drawers that are hand cut dove tail and have oak as a secondary wood. It has the original hardware and escutcheons. Someone has replaced the escutcheon on the top. The keys are with the desk and almost all the locks work but we never guarantee antique locks ever. The overall size is 30 inches wide, 19 inches deep, 41 inches high to the gallery, 39 inches high to the desk itself and the writing lid when flipped down it is 29 inches high from the floor. The overall condition is good. There is a crack in the right plank side and there is one on the left hand side as well which is common. The original finish appears to be alligatored and a satin sheen finish was applied previously to brighten up the rich reddish brown mahogany stain. Shipping starts at $345 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.
