We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful mahogany Sheraton style turn tapered post canopy bed that dates back from the 1940s. It is a solid bed with bolt on rails for strength and sturdiness. This is the type of bed that the box spring and mattress sit on top of the rails. We always put a support on the inside of the rails and slats as box springs and mattresses aren’t made the same as they were back then. The bed has the serpentine top canopy that comes all apart for transportation and has a dainty turn finial post on top of the tall post, a wide shield on the headboard and the open section on the front which is to be expected of the Sheraton style. The finish is a dark reddish brown that does show some nicks and dings, but nothing offensive. There is a scratch on the headboard which we will try to touch up prior to shipping, but if the buyer so desires we can discuss refinishing at the time of the sale. There was a couple of cracks on the top of the center post, but we have glued them up and colored them in. The overall size is 53 7/8 inches wide and 76 inches long for mattress purposes. The height to the top of the rail is 15 inches high. The height to the headboard shield is 39.5 inches high. The height to the top of the finials is 68 inches high from the floor. The overall width is 54.75 inches wide. The height to the cross brace on the footboard is the same as the side rails being 15 inches high from the floor. The highest point of the canopy is 78 inches high. It is a nice looking period style bed that was made by a quality maker with this great construction. Shipping starts at $345 if you are in our normal area. Please contact us prior to purchase to confirm that you are in our normal area as shipping can increase the further from New England you are.
