We are pleased to be offering today this set of eight matching solid mahogany custom hand made bench made dining room chairs that date from the 1880s era. It came out of a large estate where we were fortunate enough to get a matching banquet table and sideboard. So please check with us to see if the other pieces are still available if you are looking for a dining set. These were made in Montpelier, Vermont by the T. Robinson & Sons Makers of Montpelier, Vermont Furniture Company. I am looking at the stamp of the chair that is chair #6 as they are all stamped and numbered. They are all solid mahogany and hand done. They have carved cabriole legs all the way around, a lipped seat, solid mahogany chair back and a stout sturdy flared back leg. It is a Chippendale city back with a cabriole ball and claw leg front and all joined together with solid mahogany stretchers. One of the chairs has a crack in the solid mahogany splat in the back which is normal for a hand made chair. The chairs do have the normal nicks and dings for being over 110 years old. The overall size is 21 inches wide, 18 inches from the front to the back, 38 inches high to the top of the carved back and 17.5 inches high to the seat. The chairs have the original needlepoint seat fabric and some of them are worn and scuffed up and you will most likely want to reupholster them. The seat inserts are hand made as well and you have to make sure they go in the right chair for proper fit. The time and workmanship that went into this set is unbelievable. Don’t forget about the banquet table that opens to over 10 feet and the sideboard that we purchased at the same time made by the same maker for this estate back in the day, so don’t forget to check to see if they are still available. Shipping starts at $385 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.
