Product Description

This is a wonderful set of four matching tiger sawn Larkin press-back chairs, in what was called the "number one" pattern because of the rope twisted outside leg posts. This chair was given away as a premium by the Larkin Soap Company back at the turn of the century, and can be seen in the catalogs from the 1890s that tell how many soap box tops you would have to turn in to get one of these chairs. The chairs have been sought after by all Larkin collectors, and is the number one (excuse the pun) sought-after press-back chair ever in the antique world. I take a lot of pride in finding these chairs, and we actually have a total of 18 of them here to sell! The set contains all the original turned spindles, and all the original rope twisted legs. They have upholstered seats because some of them had lace cane and some had pressed cane. We've upholstered them all so you can easily remove the upholstered seat and replace with cane or a different fabric if you want. The chairs you buy from us are always stripped, pulled apart, re-glued, sanded, stained, multiple coats of satin sheen sealer and moisture proof lacquer is applied, and what results is a beautiful chair like these! The overall size of each chair is 18.5 inches wide, 17 inches deep, 33 inches to the top of the posts, and 17.5 inches high to the seat.
