We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful pair of solid mahogany pineapple poster beds that came out of a Massachusetts estate. They are all solid mahogany in right out of the home condition. We just wiped them down, but they could use a good cleaning with some Howard's. There are some nicks and dings here and there, but overall they are a great quality pair of beds. They date from the 1940's and have bolt on rails, which are the tightest style of beds that you can get. The cast iron metal bolt holds the rail to the headboard and foot board to provide a very tight and sturdy bed. They are true twin size beds that can be used two different ways with the mattress. They are all solid and extra tall. The overall size outside is 42 inches wide, 64 inches high to all four posts, 47 inches high to the headboard shield from the floor, 37 inches high from the floor to the cross stretcher on the footboard and 17.5 inches from the mattress to the cross stretcher to the mattress for those who may want to hang their feet out of the covers at the end of the mattress. The inside dimensions for mattress purposes is 38.5 by 74 inches which will fit a modern day mattress sitting on plywood. Someone has put a set of wood cleats on the inside of the rails to likely put a sheet of plywood and then the box spring and mattress on top, which is common nowadays. Back in the old days, they used to lay the box spring on top of the side rails and the way they kept the beds from sliding off was to put a cleat on the underside of the box spring and those dimensions are 42x74 inches which is a modern day twin size box spring and mattress. The finish is a dark mahogany red with some slight fading in different spots from sunlight though a window. Both shields have a seam in them that we will glue up prior to shipping, but we wanted to mention it. These are all solid mahogany and does not have any veneer. Shipping for these lovely beds starts at $285 for a driveway delivery in our normal area. Please contact us prior to purchase to confirm that you are in our normal area.
