We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful solid mahogany ox bow front, ball and claw feet all the way around, two piece governor Winthrop secretary desk that dates from the 1930s to 1940s. It is a great desk with the individual mullion glass top with the wavy glass still intact. There are 13 panes on each door which represents the colonies. It has a large wide broken arch top with a center flame turn finial in the center on the top crest The desk is high quality and appears to be all solid mahogany, dove tail construction, Chippendale brass hardware and a beautiful reddish brown stain finish. It has 4 ball and claw Chippendale feet. It has a breadboard writing surface. The overall size is 38 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 91 inches high to the top of the flame finial. When you open the slant top lid it exposes a multi-cubby hole drawer interior with a carved door. The lid is supported by two pull out supports. The interior is much better than usual as it is mahogany. The writing surface is 31 inches high when opened. It has two cleverly disguised compartments behind the carved columns on either side of the interior door. The inside has the normal nicks and dings from everyday use. We could sand it down and re-stain it if the buyer so desires that can be discussed at the time of the sale. There are two shelves in the top for additional storage space.
