SOLD Antique Carved Chippendale Ball and Claw Banquet Table

Product Description

This is a gorgeous double-pedestal ball and claw Chippendale banquet table with a gadroon rope carved edge along the top and three factory 12-inch leaves. The table dates from the 1940s era, and is definitely Bernhardt or Drexel, or another high-quality furniture maker from that era, because it is certainly nice quality! It has all solid wood cabriole ball and claw legs, two multi-turned vase type pedestals, and we have refinished the top so the table leaves and the top all blend together. I would have to say, as a wood man, this is either mahogany or walnut. It is definitely a brown color stain, but the grain of the wood definitely looks more like walnut than mahogany. I’ve rarely seen this table in this color. The overall size of the table, without the leaves, is 64 inches long, 42 inches deep, and 30 inches high. When the leaves are inserted, it opens to 100 inches long, which will easily accommodate a set of eight matching chairs, if not 10. Take a look at the top: It’s been all sanded, stained, color-matched, and multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer have been applied. You can see a few places where damaged veneer has been repaired. Overall, it’s in outstanding condition. The color is such a unique brown walnut color leaning towards a cherry brown.
