We are pleased to be offering today this 1880’s-1890’s beautiful 16 piece oak fully professionally restored by the previous owner and attributed to RJ Horner dining room set. The set consists of a serpentine glass oversize china closet with standing full wing griffins on the gallery, an oversize bevel glass heavily carved sideboard, a banquet table that opens to 15 feet long with a 60 inch round top all carved with five matching leaves, a server heavily carved with claw feet and north wind bodies and the unbelievable set of 12 matching chairs with two arms and ten sides. This set was purchased from a southern estate. I do not know how much these people paid to have this set gone through, but it has been gone 100% through. The refinishing is outstanding and the upholstery is amazing. It is all complete. Horner made different levels of antique furniture and this is certainly one of their high end dining room sets. It is one of the nicer sets we have seen in a long time. The fact that it is all refinished and ready to go into the home makes this a great deal. It is a wonderful set. Finding complete dining room sets are getting rare, scarce and hard to find (yes it is that difficult) as people often break them up and sell one piece for big money. We do not do that. I can sit here and describe this set for the next 20 hours, but I will give a brief description with sizes as I am going to let the pictures do the talking. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us and will respond within 24 hours, if not right away. The china closet is 54 inches wide, 20 inches deep and 60 inches high to the top of the china closet itself. The top of the bonnet top is 84 inches high. It has serpentine glass on both sides, a triple shelf with plate grooves, a full mirror back and the top has a bevel glass mirror back with standing griffins that are winged and are 13 inches tall that hold up the canopy top. The next item is the server that has 3 drawers on the top, clam shell carved handles, one long drawer on the bottom, a multi-molded bottom shelf, cabriole style toe nail claw legs with north wind faces and a wonderful detail backsplash. The server is 46 inches wide, 21 inches deep, 36 inches high to the top of the base and 49 inches high to the top of the backsplash. It is a stunning piece. The next item is the dining room table that is 60 inches round and 30 inches tall. It stands upon wonderful detail claw feet and bun feet. It has four standing full wing griffins on all four corners holding up the carved 60 inch round top. It comes with five skirted leaves that are all carved to match the table top carving. When the table has the five leaves installed it becomes 15 feet long. It is a beautiful stunning table. The nice thing about these leaves are that they are double fitted. When the table set was refinished they attached latches that will join the seams together to make sure there are no gaps where the leaves meet. The next item is the sideboard that is a monumental sideboard. The sideboard base is 74 inches wide, 28 inches deep and 38 inches high. The sideboard top is 72 inches wide, 18 inches deep and the overall height from the floor to the top of the crested molding is 91 inches high. It is a beautiful sideboard with a shapely 1.5 inch bevel glass shapely mirror. The fluted columns are supported by two standing full wing griffins that are 18 inches tall. It has multiple drawers, carved doors, swell front, detail claw feet, carved back leg and it is simply stunning. It has molded panel sides. It is a heavy duty and stylish sideboard. The set of 12 chairs have been re-glued, restored, reupholstered and refinished that are scarce and hard to find because of the height of the backs. The arm chairs are 27 inches wide at the legs, 22 inches deep, 48 inches high to the top of the carved lion face, 28 inches high to the arms and 20 inches high to the seat. The side chairs are 22 inches wide, 20 inches deep, 46 inches high to the back and 20 inches high to the seat. It is very unusual to find Horner chairs this tall. I hope the pictures do it justice on the fabric. They have really nice carved elbows on the cabriole style claw foot front legs, carving on the arms, carving on the back to match the case pieces and of course the beautiful restoration work. They are in the medium oak stain finish that I am sure shows nicely in the photos. I can not stress how wonderful the restoration work is on this set. The set consists of an oversize monumental carved sideboard, a 15 foot carved full wing griffin banquet table, a carved oak server with matching backsplash, an oversize china closet with a canopy full winged griffin supported mirror top with serpentine glass and the set of rare matching 12 chairs for one money.
