We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful fine and rare Irish architect table by Miller and Beatty. It is from the late 19th century in Ireland. This exceptional table retains the retailer’s label “Miller and Beatty Limited House Furnishings Grafton Street, Dublin” affixed underneath the table. Miller and Beatty was incorporated in 1899 and was located as the label suggests. They are no longer in business and we do not know the year the company was dissolved. This unusual and fine table has a hinged top which tents at the center and is fitted with ratchet ends. When fully opened a baize lined hinge writing surface is exposed that opens to a storage well. The top when fully extended further exposes a second storage well with hinge. The top is above a conforming apron which is fitted with candle slides, single short pen and ink drawer, long drawer alternating with simulated drawers that is jointed to a short term pedestal that is raised on a tripod base comprised of three molded out swept legs that terminate in a brass cap claw foot castor. Architect’s table are in general a rare and difficult to find. This is an exceptional in form and very good condition. The overall size is 35 inches by 35 inches and 30 inches high. The table has been professionally polished and restored. There is restoration to hinge areas of the interior well which remain visible. Otherwise, it is in very good and fine condition with undisturbed surface and patina. A rare form of 19th century furniture.
