We are pleased to be offering today this wonderful civil war era solid black American walnut step back double door bookcase with dual drawer base. It is in the original finish. It came right out of a home in southern Maine that was a cape from the late 1700s. I wouldn’t be surprised if this bookcase was bought new for this house. If you could see where we pull it out of the house, the color of the floor and walls had faded over the last 170 years. It dates from the 1850s to 1860s era. It is all original. The only thing I can see wrong with it is that the back was glued back up on the original back. The glass is one of the highlights being the wavy glass. It has tombstone shape molded doors and two extra deep molded drawers that are 10 inches tall, 13 inches deep and 20 inches wide. It has the old original turn walnut knobs. It is a nice untouched original step back bookcase. Other than the back that has shrunk and cracked a bit. The case itself is all American black walnut. It has the locks in the drawer and door, and we do have the key! The base is 50 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 18 inches high on the base. The overall height is 84 inches. The size of the doors are 59 inches high, 46 inches wide and 12 inches deep. It comes with four original walnut face molded shelves that are fully adjustable. The cabinet has the crown molded top. It is a great Victorian piece. Shipping estimates starts at $385.00-$425.00 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England.
