We are pleased to be offering today this beautiful tiger sawn solid oak Victorian age slant top governor Winthrop style four drawer desk with a brass gallery top that dates from the 1880s in beautiful condition. We have run it through the shop where we sanded it down, stained it and applied multiple coats of satin sheen lacquer. We had to replace the keyhole escutcheons as the ones that were there had two styles missing. We put the period styles ones on and they look like they have always been there. The unusual thing about this desk is that it is all delicately carved on the slant top lid and on all four dove tail drawers. We even found a key to open the lid and work the lock, even though we don’t guarantee the locks as they always need to be cleaned and adjusted. When you pull the slant top lid down, it exposes a simplistic cubby hole interior and the lid is held up with metal support brackets on each side. It has a brass gallery top and a beautiful shapely cut out front and the solid oak sides finishes off one great desk. The overall size is 30 inches wide, 17 inches deep and 44 inches high to the top of the brass gallery. When the lid is opened up it is approximately 30 inches high from the floor. The desk has minor nicks and dings, but it is in fantastic condition for the age. Shipping starts at $285 for a driveway delivery in our normal area which is New England. Please contact us prior to purchase with your zip code to confirm what it would cost you if outside of New England for shipping.
